Introducing Sundari and her new course Your Style Story!
Jun 28, 2024With Sundari's new course, Your Style Story going live on 15th July, it's only right you get to know her, and understand why her course is so special for budding stylists who want to learn from a true expert.
Q. Sundari, how did you get into styling and photography?
I began my journey as an event and wedding designer, running my own business for several years. During this time, I frequently created styled shoots for my portfolio and collaborated with other industry professionals. This creative work eventually led to opportunities in content creation for brands, starting with Charlotte Mills, a renowned wedding shoe designer.
As I gradually phased out the wedding side of my business, I found myself increasingly in demand for on-set creations with prestigious brands like Laura Ashley, COS, L'Oréal, and Diane Hill, alongside various smaller brands. This exciting phase of my career also introduced me to the world of photography, where there was a natural overlap between my design work and capturing the perfect shot.
In my diverse career, I've worn many hats: prop stylist, food stylist, set backdrop designer, floral stylist, and art director. While these roles are quite different, they all fall within the creative styling and direction industry, allowing me to leverage my skills and passion across various aspects of visual storytelling.
Through these experiences, I discovered my passion for photography, which ultimately became the next chapter in my professional journey.
Q: What would you say your preferred aesthetic/style is? Has it changed over time?
Reflecting on my journey, I realise how much my aesthetic has evolved. My original style is quite different from what it is now, but through teaching and practice, a consistent thread has emerged. I have always favoured styling with a human touch and using neutral colour palettes. Over time, working with a wide range of clients has matured and refined my approach, but the core of my styling philosophy remains the same.
Q: Have you taught courses before?
Yes, I've developed and taught several courses. I used to run Instagram workshops and 'branding your business' workshops. Additionally, I taught composition and styling courses, all of which were written and delivered online. Beyond courses, I've given numerous talks to small business owners and have been featured in podcast interviews.
